Electricity Meter

An electricity meter measures and records the amount of electrical energy consumed by a building, site, or individual circuit, typically in kWh.

Definition

An electricity meter records the quantity of electrical energy consumed, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Meters range from basic analogue devices requiring manual reading to smart meters that record interval data and transmit it automatically.

Why It Matters

The type and granularity of electricity metering in place directly determines what level of monitoring and analytics is possible — a monthly-read analogue meter can't support the same anomaly detection a smart meter enables.

How ecolyptus Helps

ecolyptus ingests data from electricity meters of varying types, from smart meter interval data down to manually uploaded readings where automated feeds aren't available.
