Building Controls

Building controls are the hardware and software components used to automate and manage building systems such as HVAC, lighting, and security.

Definition

Building controls encompass the sensors, actuators, and control logic that automate building system operation — thermostats, dampers, lighting relays, and the software coordinating them. They're the operational layer that a BMS or BEMS typically manages centrally.

Why It Matters

The sophistication of a building's controls often determines how much energy savings potential can actually be realised from data-driven insights, since insight without control capability can't be acted on automatically.

How ecolyptus Helps

ecolyptus's data can inform control logic and setpoint decisions, even where it doesn't directly operate the controls itself.
